OFFICIAL: Jedward are going to Eurovision 2011

I was sitting, flicking through websites in a bored manner when suddenly it comes to me. Eurovision is soon.

I love Eurovision - I get obsessed with it when this time of year comes around. Then I remembered their tweet earlier today - WORLD EXCLUSIVE.

How cool would it be if they were representing either Ireland or the UK? I thought to myself, the answer being OF COURSE

This is how Eurovision works..... (this is all theoretical - Jedward haven't been comfirmed to represent)

You have the BIG FOUR (Germany, Spain, France and the UK) These pay more money than any other country meaning they automatically qualify for the Eurovision final. The previous winner (in this case Norway) also qualifies automatically.

Semi Finals
The other countries take part in Semi-Finals. There are Two Semi-Finals and countries are drawn into either SF1 or SM2.

There are around 17 countries taking part in each semi-final. Only 10 from each semi-final will go through to the final. The countries taking part in the Semi-Final get to vote for who they want into the final. Also, a draw is done to determine which Semi-Final the five countries automatically through to the Final get to vote for.

Juries
It's not just the public who vote now. Each country has a jury of selected experts in the music industry who also vote on a point system - 12pt, 10pt, 8pt.......

If Jedward were to represent the UK then they'll be already through to the final. If they were to represent Ireland they would be in the SECOND SEMI FINAL which the UK, France and Norway also get to vote for.

Ireland haven't been in the final of Eurovision since 2007 but with the UK being able to vote - Ireland would have a good chance if they had Jedward on their side.

I also think Europe would love them too.

Sorry if I've gone on too much and sorry if I've confused you LOL. I've tried to make it easy to understand.

The main question is - Should they do it?

Nowadays I dislike Eurovision because unless you're an Eastern Bloc country you don't have a prayer.

However, it would mean screen time even if Ireland didn't make the finals. A new song. A new them. So, Hell Yes! But only representing Ireland!

Really? Hmm ... so that's that then. No Eurovision for the twins. Because how should they be allowed to represent the U.K either as their contract is in the U.K., isn't it?

That can't be true, surely? Russian had Dima Bilan (sp?) a couple of years ago and he's a huge star over there.

I'd love to see Jedward at Eurovision, especially if they did "My Lovely Horse".

I'm sure it is true though, cause theres many people in the past who've wanted to do Eurovision but can't be their a 'professtional' singer with a record label..

Im sorry but we always fail miserably in eurovision, or at least we have done in recent years all because of politics and favouritism to neighbouring countries etc. I dont think it would be a good move for them at all. If you want people of this country to take them seriously as actual pop stars, eurovision is the last thing they should be doing.

I just thought the big name singers would be too embarrassed to sing at it and thats why they never applied. I never knew that you couldn't apply if you had a record deal. Maybe thats why Ronan Keating just writes songs for other countries and can't appear himself.

The Eurovision is great fun and I love watching it but I'd rather J&E didn't apply. I feel its a step back in someones career and it always features singers/groups who are trying to make a come back rather than someone who is already riding high.

i do not thin its a good venue for them. we will just spread the hate when within the UK is already hard to contain.

This isn't the case anymore. Jury's back in the mix has changed this. Norway won last year and that's not Eastern. The UK came 5th place last yr too - much better than we had done in the past.

As for the record deal thing.... Other countries always use big stars to represent them. Sonia represented us in the 90's and she had a record deal.

i will happily sit and watch eurovision (sad much haha) but i really dont want John and Edward to do it, i dont know why just really really hope they dont!

The rumours seem to suggest that the BBC have approached them to take part in the selection show.

I'm in two minds about it. It would be great exposure, and with the right song they could do ok. Alot of the other countries send some of their biggest stars to do it for them. These days it's all about the song. I don't think it would be dreadful for them, but it's high risk

No, no, no!. I find Eurovision so naff and cringey...planetjedward have bigger fish to fry and it would be a step back in their careers!...
