Is it only me that thinks it's a really stupid idea to release it the same day as the album?

Bands used to do that all the time. Why is it an issue? Fans will pre-order at various times before then in the next few weeks when they can afford it so it's not like they'll lose sales. It's what I was saying in the tour thread about combining the costs for promo again etc. What disadvantage could there be?

Thanks for that info I was wondering why both were being released on the same day.. Totally makes sense.

Also don't forget that singles are not there to make money, they very rarely do, they are promotional tools for albums. if we released singles we never ever expected them to make any money, in fact in other countries often they are not 'released' anymore but are radio only releases, as they're purely promo tools and a cost to be factored into the album budget. Finland in particular do this. The band may make a vid to have played on tv but you can't actually buy a physical single. The record company know fans will buy the single regardless and that will prob be enough to get it to no 1 alone, but other people will prob see the promo 'ATST, from the album planet jedward out now!' and think, bugger it for another few quid I may as well get the album.

I asked UM Ireland which outlets count towards the charts in Ireland. They very kindly responded with the following list. It is important that fans purchase from the correct shops so that all sales count. Reply Retweet . UMIreland finn57 Heatons, Empire,Top Twenty,Trax, Fusion Dublin Airport, Downtown Castlebar, Lee Music Tralee, Musiczone, HMV, Tesco, Golden Discs, Xtravision, Heartbeat City, Roxy, Tower, BPM, Sound City / Zhivago, Whites, Music World, Celtic Note CD World Drogheda and Dundalk, Link2 Letterkenny - phew think that's all of them! 21 minutes ago via web in reply to finn57

As the single and album is released on the same day, wouldn't the single suffer because fans/public may just opt to buy the album instead? that's gonna be tough for the single to get to the top spot then wouldnt it? :/

I always thought it was the usual practice to have 1st single/album release very close together - about a week apart or two at the most. It's the ad for the album after all. It's important it gets a lot of airplay prior to the album release though so I hope there's lots of radio and tv plays pretty soon.

It'll be to do with timing for promotion too. If the single came out in June, the boys would be hard pushed to promote it with their usual appearing absultely everysoddingwhere cos they're still recording, and have gigs (in theory!) and it can't drag on later cos of other commitments already in the diary in Aug etc e.g Irish tour staring, rehearsals for that blah blah. All things considered there prob weren't that many options for a release date where they could tie all the promotion in.

it makes me sad 2 people im friends with have joined this. lets hope the single comes out before the album release date, let them waste their money I know that feeling my 'friend' just put as her status that she feels like killing herself (dont you just hate it when people say that and dont mean it) because j n e have covered this song. They can have their opinions i suppose, but at the end of the day blink sold them the rights! Is there any other facebook groups supporting john and edward? I've joined this one -http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/group.php?gid=133486503328385&ref=ts is there any more? x x x

I've never seen this video of them performing ATST before. They're fantastic and the quality's really good. 2:35 is a great moment ;D Check it out! www.youtube.com/watch?v=ab0aUla8ZJU&feature=player_embeddedAlthough I have to warn you about the comments many pathetic low life scum wrote about them covering the song. And I know we have to be positive about their single but it's people like whoever created THIS facebook who make me want to be sick. www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=102583586456909&ref=share It's not even funny. I almost want to cry looking at it And why people would even JOIN is beyond me.
