Multi-million record coup for Jedward just 24 hours after losing Sony deal
LUCKY: Paddy's Day delight for twins as they agree to join Universal
DUMPED X Factor stars Jedward celebrated some real luck of the Irish today after they signed a sensational new record deal, just 24 hours after they were dumped from their first.
Within hours of Sony sending the duo packing, the Lucan twins were snapped up by Universal Records in a multi-million euro contract.
The Herald can exclusively reveal how John and Edward Grimes (18) have been snapped up by the music giants in a highly lucrative three-album deal.
As our backstage pictures show, the cheeky duo really do have the luck of the Irish on St Patrick's Day after being signed up at last night's X Factor concert in the O2 Arena by Universal boss Mark Crossingham.
He came down to see them in action at the northside venue and was so impressed, he agreed the deal with the pair on the spot as their proud parents Susannah and John looked on.
Their mentor Louis Walsh say the pair are thrilled with the new deal: "Universal is the best record company in the world. They're the same company who signed up stars like Boyzone and Take That -- the lads are going to go far with them behind them," he said.
There was huge surprise after Sony took the shock decision to scrap their record deal with the spiky-haired twins, despite their number one hit with Ice Ice Baby (Under Pressure).
However, less than 24 hours after the news was announced, they were already snapped up by another big music company and ready to move on to greener pastures.
Edward explained how the news of their new deal had barely sunk in but they were "really excited".
He added that it was "always amazing" to be performing in their home town. "You get such a buzz being on stage in Dublin where all the fans are chanting your name and cheering for you. We love coming back to Ireland as this is where it all started for us. The support we've got has been unbelievable and all we want to do now is focus on our future and keep on performing and doing what we love doing best," he said.
The pair are well on their way to achieving their goal of becoming millionaires before their 19th birthdays, with a string of performances and public appearances lined up.
They took to the stage last night to perform a string of their best-known songs from their time on The X Factor including Ghostbusters and Under Pressure.
Joining them at the gig were a horde of fellow X Factor stars from last year's show including eventual winner Joe McElderry, Lucie Jones, Stacey Solomon, Lloyd Daniels, Jamie Archer, Danyl Johnson and Olly Murs.
And the pair stuck to their clean-living ways while some of their fellow performers headed to the official aftershow party in the Dragon Bar.
"We're more interested in concentrating on what we're doing next and having fun on stage, we're not too bothered about the whole party scene," Edward said.
