It stood out a mile in the lives shows, you can see they love doing it, that style of music sooo suits them more, so many people said that on the dates. I'm gonna stick my neck out and say it'll be a smash. You mean the J&E fans? They will say that.

No, I mean out of J&E fans who pretty much loved the whole set (apart from the few of us that despised the 2 jumps songs!) it just seemed that loads liked small things in their faves.
What do we think on @trvsbrkr coming out and bigging the boys version up soon? Yay or nay?

What do we think on @trvsbrkr coming out and bigging the boys version up soon? Yay or nay? It would have to be a good thing for Travis Barker to lend his support. I'm determined to be positive because I do love the song and I love the way they've performed it on the tapes from Irish concerts I've seen. I'm sorry about any negativity toward their single. Wishing all the best for them, all the very best. If haters knock them down, they'll get up again because they're deadly.

As an addendum: you have to wonder what Steve Brookstein is saying about it, the miserable porcine.

Haters are gonna hate - nothing you can do about it except enjoy them increasing the viewing figures on the video on youtube so they can leave hateful comments, which will just get the boys the number one spot on loads of video music stations - just like it did with underpressure.
Once you've covered queen/bowie - you're pretty much proved you don't care about stepping on rock legends toes. And until the boys covered All The Small Things - I'd heard of Blink 182 but I couldn't name one song. Frankly they'll be doing Blink 182 a favour for their come back.
It's catchy - it's not so mainstream is screams cover version unless you're a Blink fan. They do a good job of it. So frankly I'm excited. I was dreading a Jump song or MC Hammer. or a Timmy Mallet collaboration.
It does make me think the album is basically gonna be hits from the Irish tour - but I had considered that as possiblity anyway. The boys need to get something out and be doing it before the next series of X factor starts - FACT!
Hopefully we can get some decent song writers on board for the 2nd album and find a more pop producer than Nigel :/
I don't suppose John can actually play the guitar part for this song? - cos that would be bloody amazing if he could!

Everything rivertam said.
I doubt John can play guitar to any reasonable standard. It would be incredible if Travis Barker would play drums and appear on their music video. Blink are owned by Universal, Blink are making a comeback — why not?

I don't suppose he's ever played electric guitar before and it's different to acoustic so it'd be a big ask! It's not a hard song though. There are only a few chord changes. Can you imagine if they came on the stage with their own electric guitars and started playing?? Noone would believe it was really them! I bet he can play it acoustically already ;D Actually, I'd bloody love if they came on xfactor and did a stripped down, acoustic version. Can you imagine? Xfactor contestants in 'playing their own instruments' shocker!!

I don't know how I feel about this yet They performed it well on the tour and they seemed to really enjoy it. On the other hand like when they released Under Pressure they will be compared to the original. I really wish they could have gotten an original cheesy pop song. That would of been my first choice. I agree with Sparkle, I don't want this to be overproduced like the first one. It would be nice if they got Blink 182 to be in the video or something. I just want them to do well and have fun and be happy. I really wish people who don't like them can just fuck off. They act like them having a record or covering this song is the worst thing in the world Seriously when the biggest artist right now are Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Ke$hit, Jonas Brothers, ect great music has been dead for a long time.

I think for now. the haters actually do them a favour. As John said. one paper writes they like you, another writes they hate you. that's two stories. Being a marmite act keeps their profile high - we just have to get radio 1 to switch sides for a bit.

I am disappointed. I really hoped they would release something original.
Yes haters are going to hate, but the people I know who were sitting on the fence who I've mentioned this to have decided they're nothing more than a novelty act that won't last the year out now. This is a shame but I can understand it, a catchy original song might have had the opposite effect. Those of us who like them are all disappointed.
I like them and I want them to do well and I would have bought the song regardless of what it was. I get the impression that is the case with most of the fans. I agree with everyone who has said this won't expand the fanbase, which they really need to do. Infact I think this might lose them some fans (if the reaction of my friends is anything to go by).
I'd go as far as saying I think releasing this is a mistake.
I hope I am wrong

I had hoped the new release would be something original, but I'll take All The Small Things as the next best thing. I don't see it as a mistake. Haters aren't going to buy anything J&E release, and they're going to slate whatever they do. I think ATST is a catchy summery song which if well produced might well get significant radio airplay particularly at this time of year, and I'd go so far as to say it could do well in Europe also. I'm not by any means saying it's going to be best seller of the year or anything like that but I do think people other than us diehard fans WILL buy it and make it a success.
It must already have some approval of Blink surely, won't the composer (Tom DeLonge) have had to give his permission for it to be covered? Or is that not how it works? I'd agree that Blink being with Universal, and them also having a summer European Tour planned, all ties in. And if Blink say something positive about the cover, it would go some way to deflect the criticism of J&E "daring" to cover this song.

Out of all the songs from the Irish Tour, I think doing ATST was the best choice. However, I was hoping for an original song.. I wouldn't mind if this really was their debut single, but they've already done a cover song before. At the moment, the public don't really take them seriously. And if they keep doing cover songs they're not gonna change their minds about J&E. They'll still see them as a novelty act.
I have a feeling that UP(IIB) won't be on the album. So, I'm hoping the only covers on the album will be the ones we already know about (as far as I know) - Ghostbusters and ATST. And I wouldn't mind one other either.
But they need original songs, doing cover after cover is not gaining them any new fans and that's what they need. If they've released 2 covers as singles people are going to presume the album is just full of covers and then not buy it. It's not gonna grab interest like an original new song would.
Eoghan Quigg's Album was like 80% covers or something, and it flopped. Same Difference's album was also about 70% covers, that pretty much flopped too. Admittingly, those two acts have nowhere near the amount of fans that J&E do, but an act needs more than just fans to make it in the music industry. I'd say 90% of the people buying J&E's album will be fans. It would be a lot better if it was 50/50, 60/40.
As a J&E fan, I think ATST will be great, and I know I'm going to love it, out of all the covers they could have done that's definitley the best choice. Doing ATST will get them taken more seriously than if they were to do MC Hammer. However, if they want to gain more fans, doing another cover is not the right way to go and I seriously hope there are lots of original songs on the album.
This song will get hate yes, but most songs do. And it's not haters that will stop the single from selling. Haters can't do anything but hate. Sure, they can make a campaign for the original to get to number 1 but it won't work. RATM worked because people have been trying to do it for years, and there are a lot more people that are passionate about the XF not being number 1 every year than there are people who don't want J&E at number 1.
It's not about having a lot of people who hate it, it's about not having enough people who love it. And of course they have loads and loads of dedicated fans who will buy this but they need more than just fans buying it. I do reckon more people will like this than they liked UP(IIB). This is the perfect summer song and if it's done right lots of teenagers will love this. But an original song would have been better.
I try to look on the positive side for this because I do think this single will be awesome, but people need to give it a chance. And anyway, even if they were doing an original song, I doubt it would be written by them anyway. Like, for example, JLS. Their songs do really well, but the ones they've released as singles they haven't wrote themselves. Those singles could have been given to anyone else. However, people haven't heard the songs before and that's the difference. Although, I reckon there are actually lots of people who haven't even heard ATST so that's good.
I just worry because my parents already think J&E will be gone in a years time. :/ Hopefully the public will give the album a chance.

It must already have some approval of Blink surely, won't the composer (Tom DeLonge) have had to give his permission for it to be covered? Or is that not how it works? No it doesn't work like that. No-one can stop you doing a cover version of a song. But if you record, and perform the song, and it gets played, royalties have to be paid to the publishing company that own the song. When a band plays a venue for example they have to sign a form saying what songs they played and who the publishers / writers are. These all go to the relevant authority in the country to collect royalties on behalf of artist. The PRS and MCPS do all that sort of stuff in the UK. Live venues, places that broadcast music have to have licences and pay annual fees to the MCPS as well as money to the PRS for performances etc. So basically every time ATST gets performed by J&E, or played on the radio, Universal collect more money. Tom probably doesn't 'own' his songs now. Not if he/Blink has this deal with Universal. He'll get a percentage of what they get, after a big sign on fee up front. Lots of artists sign publishing deals and these can be sold (e.g. when Michael Jackson bought the rights to all the Beatles songs or whatever he did) on when they run out. Many artists back in the old days used to get screwed over and make no money out of their songs, but they're all a lot smarter now. If you sign the wrong deal it means your publishing company can let your songs be used in anything without your permission. When we've seen shit contracts we always tell our bands... if you sign that they can use your songs in tampon adverts and only pay you one-off fee £1.36 for it, are you sure you want that? But yeah, you don't need permission from anyone to go out and sing or perform their song, as long as you pay what's due.

tinyurl.com/284pmtuDigital Spy have reported this story AGAIN. Yesterday they failed to mention "All the Small Things" as a cover but today they have. They've also mentioned that album is rumoured to contain songs from the Irish Tour.
