Ah...the painting though, the painting. And the fact that you're a mentalist as well The new painting depicts them as 'post post modern' iconic figures again, and as subversive elements in pop. I tried to explain this to my son, but he laughed at me But he is a music purist, so will NEVER understand the enigma of John and Edward. However I hope the new painting does, or at least people are able to see my interpretation of them as enigmatic figures. I am a horrible, horrible music nazi (you have no idea how bad I am) but I still get J&E. I don't think they are subversive in terms of pop music at all, but they were exceptionally subversive in what was seen to be a 'singing competition' as Dannii reminded the viewers ad nauseum. Whether they actually realised they were subversive or not is another question. The answer to that is probably no I reckon. The 'post post modern' moment for J& E was Oops. I can't wait to see the painting, I'm very interested

They have fans from all different age groups, musical genres etc. I'm still in the early stages of the painting, but it's big, on canvas....in oils and some mixed media. I may use glitter again

They are refreshing and different as an entity definitely, and they attract a wide range of people, people became fans of them because of their unique entertainment value and have stuck with them since as they try out a music career. TV gave them their fanbase, not music. They aren't subversive in terms of pop music and what they've done so far, not at all. That is a whole other animal.

They certainly aren't revolutionary or unique or innovative in terms of music. But I feel their subversiveness comes form the fact that they are entirely new to all this - no stage school training, no musical training etc. They are subverting usual inroads into music or entertainment, but not like some other reality stars, e.g. Jade Goody etc. Re their entertainment value, yes it's refreshing but it's more than that. I think so anyway. I think the internet has a massive influence too. Twitter etc. and the relationship they have with the fans via this is brilliant! Sometimes they seem so young, but their ability to stand up to negativity demonstrates wisdom, even though they have each other to comfort and support.

Yep agree with all of the above. You originally mentioned that they are subversive in pop. My issue was with that. That's the music nazi in me coming out.

I've had no end of arguments and fall outs with idiots on Jedward's YouTube channel who are music nazis and Freddy worshippers. They are totaly anal about the whole thing. They really get on my wick. Not you, of course

Not you, of course I wouldn't waste my energy on those idiots, nor would i read the comments. It's a losing battle. I spend waaaay too much time, money and thought on music. And I'll argue all things music into infinity. That's why when you mentioned about them being subversive in pop music....well, if i came to your exhibition and saw that written next to the painting, I'd have to take you to task on it I think they could be great pop music troubadours , but as of yet it remains to be seen...

I'm not a big tweeter (twitterer?) or at least I wasn't before j&e. I had the impression that it's mostly used though by celebrities to send vacuous, self-congratulatory tweets to each other or to promote themselves. Is their anyone else using it the way the boys are right now to connect so much with their fans and build up a relationship with them? It's very clever I think and also completely natural. They sounded so horrified in the Nicksy interview when he asked if their management did the tweeting They obviously felt that would be a heinous fraud!

I also thought what was the point of it. All I ever seemed to read about was Stephen Fry and Jane brown tweeting crap. But now I'm hooked, but only tweet with other John and Edward fans — and the boys themselves, of course It's great! I'm badly addicted though :\

Just got the hard copy Guardian. Must say I preferred the headline for the online article - in the hard copy version the article title is: 'Jedward? Still?' Good that it's on page two though.

Yes, I prefer the on-line header. BTW, it's not the 'hard copy', it's *THE PHYSICAL DOWNLOAD* ;D It is a small article, but Carmel (the writer) said she would be doing a bigger one. She said, (and I quote), "One has to remind people of their success as its a bit under the radar." She's VERY positive towards the boys and us fans! Here it is:

Had another interview, by The Herald, yesterday. YAY! Leeloo well done. I really admire you. You are not afraid to be yourself. That is a great gift. I wish I had it but I unfortunately am terrified of criticism. It is such a hinderance in life....and yes I am feeling blue today. Sorry everyone else.

This NEVER fails: As for me, it's just a fluke that this silly story has been picked up by the press. But I'm glad as someone who is *cough* over 21 *cough* that I can say a small bit about how the boys are not just appealing to young 'uns!
